GEMS is a non-profit non-governmental organization registered in Trivandrum, Kerala, India in December 1977 under Travancore Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Regulation Act of 1955. In 1993, GEMS Foundation was also registered as a charitable Trust, in Madras. This is the first NRI initiative of its kind in India.

Mr. C. George a NRI businessman of Kuwait, UAE and Singapore is the founder chairman of GEMS. He belongs to Mavelikkara, Alleppey District, Kerala, India. His keen desire to work for the less fortunate in our society gave birth to the George Educational Medical & Charitable Society (GEMS Foundation) in India.
